Guerrilla Lighting

The concept of Guerrilla Lighting was created in 2008 for the purpose of raising awareness of how lighting can transform space. Under the guidance of a team leader, each guerrilla takes part in creating a transient lighting design using high powered torches, battery powered LEDs and an array of gels and filters. Instructed to be in a specific position and at a given distance from their target, the teams simultaneously light up various aspects of the chosen buildings on cue at the sound of an air horn, creating a dramatic spectacle. The installation is photographed, the lighting turned off and then the team move on to the next site. The teams are made up of local lighting designers, architects, interior designers and manufacturers, all of whom are keen to draw attention to the possibilities, and importance of, lighting in the urban environment or just ordinary people interested in light and their local space.

The concept caught on and has taken place in many countries around the world including Holland, Finland, Iceland, Romania, Belgium, US, Israel, Spain, Turkey, Denmark, Norway and the UK…

Findhorn Bay Festival

The biennial Findhorn Bay Festival is a spectacular six-day celebration taking place in the heart of Moray and includes a vibrant mix of theatre, music, dance and visual art as well as free events including the popular annual community event Culture Day Forres.

Valoa Oulu!

Light Collective headed up two Guerrilla Lighting events in Oulu as part of the Valoa Oulu! Festival. The festival was to celebrate the coming together of many municipalities to create a new larger city. As well as a Guerrilla event in Oulu city Centre, we headed out to one of the outlying communities Oulunsalo to recruit the locals as Guerrillas and help us illuminate their area.
