Sky Library
IALD Enlighten Americas was a conference about light where the participants spent all day in dark rooms. We wanted to come up with an idea that got people out of the conference spaces and inspired them to go out and look up at the sky, to bathe in the rays of the sun, to appreciate the colours of daylight and above all get sky drunk…
The idea for the Sky Library came from combining two of our obsessions. One being daylight and the other being colour classification systems. As the sky is a different colour at every minute, on every day in every different place, we wanted to be able to record its diversity and thought that this could be done by creating a permanent visual record – a library of skies…
So referencing the graphic look of the Pantone system, each photo of the sky that the participants posted on instagram or twitter, was turned into a separate Skytone card. We asked that each post included a name for the colour of the sky in the photo and also included the date and time.
The images in the film form the IALD Sky Library - Puerto Vallerta. We hope there will be more in other countries in the future. Thanks to Victor Palacio for giving us the opportunity to do something so totally weird but yet so rewarding. An invitation to look a the sky all day is a unique thing…
